Description

Prairie State is a non-profit law firm that provides free civil legal aid to low income individuals and seniors in 36 counties in northern and central Illinois, outside of Cook County.

Law interns perform a variety of duties at Prairie State depending on their experience level and the needs of a particular office or project. All work is supervised by an experienced attorney. Prairie State provides extensive training opportunities to interns.

Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.

Funding information

  • We will accept applications from law students/grads who have funding.
  • We will accept applications from work study law students.
  • We will accept applications from law students seeking academic credit or participating in an externship through their law school.
  • We will accept applications from law students/grads who do not have funding.

About the Organization

Prairie State Legal Services offers free legal services for low income persons and those over 60 who have serious civil legal problems like domestic abuse, eviction, foreclosure and public benefits and need legal help to solve them.

We have 11 offices covering 36 counties in northern and central Illinois. Our Administrative Office is located in Rockford, IL.The mission of Prairie State Legal Services, Inc. is to ensure equal access to justice and fair treatment under the law by providing legal advice and representation, advocacy, education, and outreach that serve to protect basic human needs and enforce or uphold rights.
